Annotating Documents in Firm Central Is Easy.

When you open a supported document type in Firm Central (such as Word, WordPerfect, or PDF), it is displayed in a Document Viewer that includes several features to help you be more productive.

  • Keep your notes and analysis attached to documents in Firm Central for future reference. This feature allows you to add valuable notes and highlights to the document, keeping your thoughts and analysis in the matter folder in Firm Central along with all of the other information related to that matter, including: research, email correspondence, etc. Your source document remains in its original format without the annotations.
  • Open a document in Firm Central and begin adding notes to the top of a document by clicking the Add Notes icon. Enter your note and click Save. The note appears at the top right of the page with links to Edit or Delete it.
  • If you want to add notes within a document, select the specific text and then choose Add a Note from the pop-up menu. Enter your note and click Save. A note icon appears to the left of the selected text. Click the Note icon to view, edit, or delete the note. You can click anywhere on the page to close the note.
  • To highlight text within a document, start by selecting the text and then choose Highlight from the pop-up menu.
  • You can click Hide/Show Notes in the document tool bar to view only the document. Click the Hide/Show Notes icon again so you can view the annotations.

In addition to annotations, Firm Central uses indexing technology from Thomson Reuters Westlaw to add KeyCite status flags and links to the full-text documents on Westlaw from the cited authority within the documents you upload.

You need a subscription to Westlaw to access KeyCite and the full text of your cited references; however, status flags will appear alerting you to good law/bad law status, even if you don’t subscribe to Westlaw.

Knowing that your citations are up to date and accurate will give you confidence and peace of mind when you deliver your work product.

Click the flag to view the citation’s Negative Treatment on Westlaw, then click the link to the citation to view the full-text document on Westlaw.
