OnePass

A OnePass profile is the online record of the username and password you personally select to access Thomson Reuters Westlaw. Selecting your own username and password strengthens your ability to control access to Westlaw, as well as many other Web-based Thomson Reuters applications. You will be the only person who knows your OnePass username and password.

Why do I have to create a OnePass profile to access Thomson Reuters products and websites?

By asking our users to create their own passwords rather than using Thomson Reuters-assigned passwords, we will be able to provide better security.

Can I use the same OnePass profile for multiple products and websites?

Yes, your OnePass username and password will allow you to access multiple Thomson Reuters products and websites that use OnePass for authentication.

1. On the Westlaw sign-on page, click Update an existing OnePass profile to display the Manage OnePass page.
2. Type your OnePass username and password in the appropriate text boxes and click Sign In to display the OnePass General Settings page.
3. Make any changes you want and click Save.
4. If you want to update the Westlaw registration information, click Manage Products on the OnePass General Settings page to display the OnePass Manage Products page.
5. Click Edit to change the friendly name for a Westlaw registration key or to change its Preferred status. Click Save to return to the OnePass Manage Products page.
6. Click Add a new Westlaw Registration Key to add an additional registration key. Click Save to return to the OnePass Manage Products page.
7. Click Return to Westlaw to begin your research session.

What do I need to do if I forget my username?

There are two locations you can go to if you have forgotten your username:

• The "Forgot OnePass Password/Username" link on the sign-on screen.
• The "Forgot OnePass Password/Username" link on the Manage OnePass page.

Clicking on either of these links will bring you to a Forgot Username or Username flows.

• Click Forgot my username or password.
• Click Forgot Username?
• Enter the email address registered to your OnePass profile and click Continue.
• An email containing your username will be sent to the email addresses registered with your profile.

What do I need to do if I forget my password?

• The "Forgot OnePass Password/Username" link on the Manage OnePass page.

• Enter the email address registered to your OnePass profile and click Continue
  
• A link to change your password will be sent to the email addresses registered with your profile.
• Click the link in the email to change your password. The link is valid for three hours.
• Use the criteria listed under Password Requirements to create a new password.

* Passwords can be saved as a cookie. Please note that if you save both your username and password, and you access sensitive public records content, you will be asked to enter your password again. This reauthentication process will only be required once per session.

Once you have received your Westlaw registration key via email, you can either click the Activate Now link from the email or follow these steps to add Westlaw to a OnePass profile:

1. Click Create a new OnePass profile on the Westlaw sign-on page to display the Register a new profile page
2. Type your Westlaw registration key and your email address in the appropriate text boxes.
3. Assign a friendly name to the Westlaw registration key. This is important in case you have more than one Westlaw registration key. A unique friendly name is necessary to identify each research session with the appropriate registration key.
4. Click Continue.
5. If a OnePass profile is already associated with your email address, you will get a "registration complete" message and can click Return to Westlaw to sign in. Otherwise, enter your username and password to edit/manage your OnePass profile. Type your OnePass username and password and click Sign in to display the OnePass General Settings page.
6. Click Manage Products to display the OnePass Manage Products page.
7. Type your Westlaw registration key and a friendly name in the appropriate text boxes and click Save. A message confirming that your Westlaw registration key has been saved is displayed.
8. Click Return to Westlaw to begin your research session.

Note: If you attempt to sign on to Westlaw prior to registering your Westlaw registration key, you will receive a message that your OnePass profile is not registered for use with Westlaw. Click Update my OnePass profile on the Westlaw sign-on page and follow steps 5 through 8 above to register your Westlaw registration key.

Upon sign in users who have multiple registration keys for a product in OnePass are presented with a registration key pick list. Users will then select which key (often identified by a user-designated friendly name) that should be used for the research session. Registration keys provide access to content or features based on subscriptions tied to the account from which the registration key is entitled. This means users’ product experiences may differ depending on the registration key selected for that session, e.g., legal research from a firm account vs. a pro bono account.
