Citation Format Advisor

The Citation Format Advisor feature of CiteAdvisor lets you select your jurisdiction, types of authorities to include, and the formatting rules you want to follow:

  • The Bluebook
  • ALWD Citation Manual
  • State-required rules for courts in California, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, and Texas

Citation Format Advisor scans a copy of your document and identifies citations to authorities on Westlaw: cases, statutes, court rules, constitutions, regulations, administrative decisions, journals, articles, and more.

If your formatting does not follow the rules specified, it suggests changes you can accept or reject. No changes occur without your consent, so you remain in full control of your document.

CiteAdvisor is available in two versions.

Software version – on the convenient West Solutions toolbar – is compatible with Microsoft® Word, Corel® WordPerfect®, and document management systems, and offers local cite checking for enhanced security. Also access your other software tools, such as BriefTools, from this one toolbar.

Online version – works with Microsoft Word documents and provides fast online access without the need for any software downloads.
